Religious Education and Faith Formation
The College Mission Statement provides a solid foundation
for both the Religious Education and Faith Development programs.
In design and implementation of curriculum, Gospel values
are engendered. Love, honesty and trust provide a focus for
all units of work, where content and teaching style reflect
these values.
The programs aim to extend students knowledge of our Catholic
heritage, celebrate the gift of life, practise justice and
develop individual gifts, according to the mission
of the College.
Religious Education
At the Year 7 level, the desired Religious Education
outcomes are achieved using an integrated approach.
At Years 8 and 9 levels, units are developed to address
a range of important topics, including:
- Personal Development,
- Church History,
- the Liturgical Year,
- Social Justice,
- Sacraments and
- Scripture.
In the Senior school, Year 10 students undertake a School Based RE
unit with the emphasis on Christian Leadership, Identity and Social Justice.
In some cases year 10 students may be recommended to undertake VCE RE units.
In year 11& 12, VCE units of Religion and Society and Texts and Traditions
are offered as well as a school based Re unit (Social Justice) at year 12.
Students undertake a minimum of one unit of VCE religion at Year 11 and Year 12.
At both levels students may choose to undertake a Unit 3 and 4 sequence.
Christian Leadership Program
Our Christian Leadership Program is structured across all
Year levels. Retreats and Reflection Days are held during
the year at different venues where presentations, activities,
liturgies and quiet times are geared to the different stages
of our students' development. We strongly believe that all
our young people are potential leaders and, because we are
a Catholic school based on the Gospel of the Risen Jesus,
they will become our Church of the future. Our aim is to enable
them to grow into men and women of confidence, competence
and compassion. The Gospel of Jesus is central to our Program:
what it means; how it can be lived; the challenges it presents
to us; how it can be applied to our contemporary world. Undaunted
by such questions we know that people faithful to the person
of Jesus and His Gospel will be an effective leaven and, ultimately,
agents of change.
World Youth Day 2008. July 14-21
Our contingent of 45 students and 8 staff have returned from this amazing experience with a determined resolve to attend the next World Youth day in Madrid in 2011.
Their days were filled with Catechesis sessions of teaching, music, prayer and meeting with people from all parts of the globe. “ The Masses were enormous and the logistics of giving Communion to thousands of People were amazing”. Highlights included joining with other pilgrims in the walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge on route to the sleep out at Randwick Racecourse and the final Mass . Even in the midst of 250,0000 + people the silence during the quiet prayer times was so powerful and the atmosphere profound and inclusive of all.
“You could not help but feel the energy and enthusiasm of a new generation ready to claim the church as their own.”…..
(Mrs. Rhonda O’ Connor Pastoral Associate & World Youth Day co-coordinator )
Post World Youth Day ….
Yr 10 & 11 students will begin a Youth Ministry Team to continue their own Faith journey and find ways of sharing this within the College community
